Am having a few nasties pop up in various areas and having had an abscess (sic) before, I SO want to avoid another one.

Well, next time you have an abscess, go to your Dr and ask him if he would take a swab to culture the organism......at the same time take a urine sample to test for sugar.

When the organism has been identified, usually a staphylococcus, and the sensitivity made, then a course of the appropriate antibiotics should solve your problem once and for all.
Definitely get it checked out if they keep coming back.

I've been tested for diabetes and such and they've mentioned other things which may be causing them like hydradendis supperativa (sp?) and PCOS was mentioned which I do have.

I tend to get them when I'm coming down with something.

I use an antibacterial shower gel like Sanex or Carex and make sure the area is breatheable.

last abscess was packed daily by district nurse after visit to hospital, staff wonderful (boy, do they see some stuff)
but will make an appointment to see doc this coming week.

i get boils on my face from time to time, in the same place so i use a zinc based lotion. it comes in a bottle with a sponge pad to wipe on the solution. it prevents them quite well
i know how embarrassing it gets
ive boils on ma bum fae sittin on ma erse all day. Got thm between hte rolls of fat roumd ma bellend too tis not niice.
