Does anyone know if tickets at Glasgow Central Station can be purchased from a person at a ticket office, or is it all the automatic ticket machines. My husband is travelling from Glasgow to Ballock. He is a pensioner and he hates the automatic ticket machines. Any help appreciated. Thanks

There's bound to be a booking office. I was there last in February and I'm sure I remember one.

I do seem to remember long queues though.
Through trains from Glasgow to Balloch leave from Queen Street; if you travel from Central it's necessary to change at Partick or Dalmuir.

Both Queen Street and Central have staffed ticket offices.
The ticket office is open from 0545 to 2330 Monday to Saturday. On Sundays it's open from 0915 to 2130.

have you got time to buy them online and have them delivered to you. I use the train line thetrainline
I've just had a look, and it seems as though trains to Balloch mostly go from Queen Street. He won't have to change if he goes from there.
If, as Musgroom25 suggests, Queen Street would be better, their ticket office is open 05:00-23:55 (Mon-Sat) & 07:10-23:55 (Sun):

Thank you to everyone who took the time and trouble to answer. Very much appreciated. It is nice to be able to ask questions and get such friendly helpful answers. Glad to hear there is a ticket office at the Glasgow stations - my poor old man had a terrible time on the London underground with the automatic ticket dispensers!! And thanks for the useful information about changing if travelling from Central. Now that he knows that, he will go from Queen Street, I think. He is travelling on his own from Belfast to Stranraer, and then to Balloch where our daughter will meet him (she's over in Scotland on holiday at Loch Lomond so she doesn't know much about the trains either). He is just a tad apprehensive about it all, and we are trying to work out his journey.
Thanks again to everyone.
I'm pretty sure the train from Stranraer goes to Glasgow Central Station. Your Dad would have to get to Queen Street to continue his journey. It is not a long walk, but it depends on your level of fitness and how much you are carrying. There are usually plenty of taxis. Not sure about buses. I am sure, though, that he could buy a ticket at Stranraer that would take him through to Balloch.
It would be cheaper to get the tickets online and delivered to you than paying for them at the station, specially if you can buy them in advance.
OOPS, sorry, meant your husband, not your Dad...many apologies!
There is also an Ulsterbus which leaves from the Europa (I think) and goes to Edinburgh stopping at Glasgow. My mum and dad used it a few times and it was pretty inexpensive (20).
Ulsterbus 923 leaves Belfast (Europa) at 06h30 and 11h15, arriving Glasgow (Buchanan Street) 12h10 and 16h55 respectively. It's a short walk from Buchanan Street to Queen Street Station. Snr Citizen fare 22 single, 38 return.

Thank you everyone, you have been really helpful. I think he is going to go for the Ulsterbus through travel option.
Thanks for telling us about it. You guys are great!
