what is the differance in a car battery and a leisure battery . and do you have to use a leisure battery in a caravan.

the only difference is in the name!..they're both 12 volt and you will find that almost any car battery (the bigger the better) will be fine for your caravan. caravan and leisure business will sell "leisure" batteries, that are really car batteries, for more money! so get down to your local auto spares shop to get the same battery for less cash!!!

They are indeed different.
A car battery is designed to be fully charged most of the time but also to give high power output for a short time for the starter motor.
The caravan or leisure battery is designed to give a fairly low output over a longer period and also to go into deep discharge without damage before recharging.

You dont have to use a leisure battery in a caravan ...but if you are going to go caravaning on a regular basis, I would certainly consider spending a bit extra and getting a leisure type battery.
Some time ago I used to repair and maintain powered wheelchairs...hundreds of them.
You could fit a car battery in a chair, and it would last a few months before needing replacing...(scrap)
Or you could fit a leisure type battery.. which is designed to be deeply discharged and recharged again and again...these usually lasted until they were out of warranty.
So I have to agree with Graham-W on this one.
