what to do with a 9 and 12 year old

barbie,colour,video,xbox,hide and seek.or get them to clean the house.

Make some bread dough with them and let them shape their own loaves.
Kneading, watching the dough rise, shaping, should fill about 3 hours or so.

If you don't mind them goggling at a pc screen, get them a decent adventure game. I have just finished "Destination Treasure Island" - utterly charming, and some decent puzzles. The 12yo in particular would love it. Another enchanting game is "Syberia".
