Ooooh - so am I; I always take sterling......got a week 3* @ 130! Fag run to Marmaris.
I thught the exchange rate on the euro was poor eg to euro done in shops. Would rather use lira.

Thanks v much for your answers - will go with the Lira :)
costs to change money, whereas free for sterling in shops etc
I wouldn't take lira just sterling as has been suggested. Different parts of Turkey favour different currencies

If you give sterling lots of places will give you your change in lira anyway. Also found if you change in shops etc you get a better rate of exchange. Watch out for torn notes as they are not usually acceptable.
Whilst queuing up in the Post Office yesterday I noticed they have a special offer on Turkish Lira. May be worth your while checking it out.

Cheers everyone - and i will give the post office a look Thanks
i got back this morning!

i took a mixture. Usually the prices where we were were in Euro but they just doubled the figure for lira if needed.

We could exchange s to euros or lira in the hotel but they didnt take travellers cheques (the rep did at a reasonable rate though), the exchange rate at town places was bad.
oh and dont forget to take a 10 note for each traveller in your hand luggage. You have to pay this at the passport control at turkey for your visa.
redcrx were you on the 3.15ish flight from marmaris that landed at manchester about 8am? My son was on that flight!
must be a bank of england one

when i was in marmaris they wanted pounds before lira and everything was priced in pounds
