Hiya, some people may know i am having physio on my neck and upper back for whiplash following a shunt in my car.

I had another session yesterday, where she did quite alot of deep tissue work at the top of my neck where the worst of the problem is.

Felt a bit tender last night following the session, which is normal following a session, but all day today i have had pains in my neck and sporadic dizziness.

Dont want to take painkilers for the pain, as the dizziness is making me feel a bit wonky and spaced, and dont want to make that worse by being drugged up.

Is dizziness like this usual? What can i do about it?

There is an artery (vertebral artery) that passes from the main arteries of the heart, passes upwards through "holes" in te cervical vertebrae, passes into the skull and supplies blood to the brain. This artery is often "kinked" reducing the blood to the brain and hence causes transient dizziness. This "kinking " is often seen after whiplash injuries and degeneration of the cervical spine.

What can you do?...not a lot. You could wear a cervical collar.

Sqad, how lovely of you to stop by and reply...

Ok, so not much i can do.. but why did the dizziness only start yesterday after physio? And does that mean i ought to stop having treatment?

Sorry, questions, questions.. a Sqads work is never done eh!
kira....the physio on your neck....manipulates (disturbs) the cervical spine and hence reduces the blood supply to your brain temporarily (transient attacks of dizziness)

No, continue the treatment, mention it to the physio and enquire about a cervical collar.

Are you making an insurance claim against the other party?

OK, i have another session on Monday, so will mention it then. Think i will avoid driving till then, as i feel a bit giddy!

Yep, i am making a claim. I have legal cover, so the insurer is handling it (and paying for the physio). I'm due to have an assessment for the claim mid may. So will have to see if its better by then.
