is it possible for me to refill a lexmark 44xl cartridge myself so that i can save some money. if so can you explain how i go about it. any help would be apreciated. thank you

It may however, decrease the life of your printer. I've seen dozens of printers where people have tried to fill the cartridges themselves and wrecked the printer by doing so.

I have rarely seen anyone totally happy with refilled cartridges, I would say they are very much a false economy.

When I ran a small printing business, I regularly refilled customers' ink cartridges. You must get the right ink though. Although it is possible to buy general purpose refill inks they are usually pretty poor and van ruin the print heads.

If you get the right refill inks for your cartridge, they usually have instructions in the box about where the refill holes are located and how to do it.

Beware, the inks are messy. Wear disposable gloves. The supplier I used, provided them with the refill kit.

Not an advert but I used to use: http://www.systeminsight.co.uk who also doa range of equivalent cartridges cheaper than the manufacturers' and just as good.

I was totally happy refilling mine ... we got new carpet, wallpaper and the doctor says I only need to shed two more layers of skin before my face is back to it's normal colour.

honestly ... it's one of the messiest jobs imaginable ... the ink is like wd40 ... it gets everywhere and while it fades on paper ... it's permanent everywhere else

it won't wreck the printer though - only your faith in economical solutions

try the replacement cartridge shops first ... see how you go
if you decide to take the plunge refill what was a new cartridge not one that's on it's fiftieth use - and don't expect too much

I've refilled my cartridges for over 8 years but you do have to occasionally buy a new cartridge and start again.

Regarding being a messy job? It all depends how messy your are normally. Providing you don't over fill them you'll be OK. Try refilling a little and often.
Using a cartridge when it's very close to empty can burn out the electrical bits in some of the jets in the cartridge and these jets will never operate properly again.
