Does anyone know if there is a connection between the words 'Region' and 'Religion'?

Just wondered if there was a common history.

Surely it came about when a 51 year old Roman monk called 'Religio' (Reginald) entered the region and thus founded the first reLIgion.

region comes from the Latin regio, regionis (direction, district) from regere (to direct).

religion comes from Latin religio (obligation, bond, reverence).

In other words, no there is no specific connection.

seemingly not. Religion comes from re-ligens, which means fearing the gods - and is the opposite of negligens. Fancy that. Not the connection you were looking for, but I've learnt something.
