What events have affected you the most whilst watching it on the news? Happy or tragic.

For me the 2004 tsumami hit home the hardest in the tragedy stakes. Can't think of any happy ones at the moment.

President Kennedy's assassination Nov 22 1963 - it was early evening in the UK when the news filtered through - we were watching Take Your Pick with Michael Miles at the time - never forget that evening.
little Jamie Bulgers MURDER.still makes me sick
Aberfan was dreadful - I was only a primary school child myself at the time so don't personally remember it.

My BF's from Wales and very recently we drove through Aberfan - it is still a haunting emotional site today with all those gravestones. And there was a 'secret millionnaire' programme set there a fortnight ago - the memory is still obviously alive with some of its older residents who lost children or family members of their own.
Probably the Hillsborough tragedy but all others mentioned were heart rending...can remember where I was for Princess Di's accident and 9/11. Dreadful happenings.
God, this is a depressing post.
I cried over little Jamie Bulger... the shock of 'children' inflicting such cruelty on another. Unfortunately, today it's not such a rare thing at all.
Apart from those mentioned already, I happened to be at home watching the space shuttle take off when it blew up. Also happened to be at home for 9/11 - I think being at home for me is bad luck for other people!

I was at work the day dunblane happened and heard firts from the partner of a policeman that we worked beside as he had phoned her in shock at what was happening before it appeared on the news.

I now work very near dunblane and people form the office have described to me the panic that went through the office when the news came out and everyone was rushing out to get their cars and drive home. A colleagues daughter was shot but survived.

Aberfan was dreadful......it was the only time I saw my ex-husband cry.....
The deaths of both Kennedy's-JFK and Bobby, Martin Luther KIng jr.,....a dreadful time in the States;
the space shuttle disasters, 9/11, John Lennons shooting.....
why is it that good things don't seem to last in the memory or make the same impression ??
I remember the Challenger Space Shuttle Explosion,
Death of Diana, 9/11 and The Boxing Day Tsunami, most of all. I flew to Toronto 4 days after it happened and all the TV cameras were at Lester B Pearson airport, waiting for the people arriving back from the stricken areas.
