I am contemplating getting broadband. I know there are some relatively cheap options out there (provided you don't look too closely at the fine print of course) but I am prepared to pay extra for good service and customer care. Basically I would like to hear about other peoples experiences and get some recommendations before I make a decision. Thanks folks.

check out Plusnet do great value ADSL with tonnes of extras and great service too
i subscribed to btopenworld, i had to order it 5 times then after a few months the connection was lost for 15 days, i have to reconnect after a couple of days as it cant find pages after its been on a while, then they tried to charge me for my e-mail address, all in all a very poor service
Blueyonder has been the best from what I've seen although it's not available in many places. I pay 35 a month for a 1mb pipe. From what I've seen they are the only broadband company offering 1mb connections.
I have ntl (cable) broadband (512Kb) which costs 24.99 a month. 1Mb costs 34.99. Excellent performance, relatively reliable (only occasional loss of service), easy and cheap to get connected, but not availalble everywhere. Their customer service used to be appalling, but I'm pleased to report has improved dramatically in the last few months. I would go with this choice again!
I have had Freeserve broadband for about six months and have found the service to be excellent. When I first set it up I had a few problems and had to contact the helpline and they were, as they should be, helpful.
I've been with NTL for a few moths now and so far everything has been just great!

There has only been a couple of times when the connection was down, but it only lasted 3 hours at the most.
I haven't really had to call them up about broadband, only about the digital TV service. It took a while to navigate the phone system, and then was on hold for 5 to 10 minutes. After I actually got through to a person they quickly and efficiently dealt with my problem/request.

Overall I would give them a rating of 9/10 (no-one is perfect!)
