I need to build a cheap fox trap, something that will destroy it instantly.I live on the outskirts of town by a massive field.I do not have the money to buy a 100 cage/trap as most of our money went on quality birds. HELP...PS I have two small grandkids and cats, but the chicken run is 10 ft Sq..

Why not spend the money on making the chicken house foxproof?
Anything you will build will almost certainly be illegal and you could land up with a heavy fine or time in prison. It would be incredibly difficult to build a killing trap that would meet current legislation and it would cost a lot of money.

You could hire someone with a suitable gun licence to come a deal with the fox, but if you're protecting your chickens so badly you will probably be visited by more than one fox over time, and as you know it only takes one visit.

i'd agree with Jules77, spend the time and money building better protection for your chickens then it doesn't matter how many times they come visiting.

I also suggest you contact the 'Fox Project' in Tonbridge, Kent who have excellent advice on fox deterrence and although being pro-fox, take a very matter-of-fact view about such issues.
Sorry, I forgot to comiserate re the loss of your birds. Very frustrating but for your mental well-being could I suggest you replace the short term satisfaction of 'getting even' with the long term solution of 'solving the problem'.
If you get rid of one fox another will come along and so it will go on and on.My friend had this problem and had an electric fence installed, now the foxes don't come near.
Trapping foxes is illegal with most types of traps and the expence of getting someone to shoot them ( as the foxes will keep coming back ) would cost you a fortune.
Electric fences are expensive but cheaper in the long run.
I had a problem last year when a fox killed my cat. I also have chickens. I was told that male urine (human) was a deterrent. Try it, if you have some willing male friends.
On a lighter note, if you choose to try the electric fence idea, DO NOT combine this with the male urine approach or you might lose all your close friends.
