Is it normal/acceptable to have the deceased's maiden name included on the plaque ie: (nee Smith)

Well in announcements in the paper and on old head stones (haven't really seen any recent ones) it does normally include the maiden name, though I'm not sure of the ettiquette.

As women often changed their names, it at least identifies them to people who knew them before they were married and indicates their familial lineage.
Well you can do no reason why not. We are having our father's headstone changed to include my mother who has just died, but we won't put her maiden name on it. Most of the people who will see it know her married name.
I wish people did include a females maiden name, it would make tracing my family tree a heck of a lot easier :-)

Alas, most of the ones I have come across do not include such information.

Thanks for all your answers, Cheekychops have you thought of looking in the death register, if you have the date you can go I think to the registery office and look through the records, because on a death certificate it gives the maiden name and date of birth.
