yesterday & fitted new pump on CH system. The valve thingy that expels air-locks automatically is leaking now. The valve has a polythene nipple. Is there a special tool to tighten it & stop the drip?

When you replaced the pump, did you use PVC tape for the threads?
Because if you did use PVC tape then remove it and use PTFE tape instead :)
there is a special tool terram............it's called a telephone, ring him up and tell him to get his arse back and sort it free of charge.

thanx.....have phoned no.k but still waiting. Have to be patient with artisans - they're such divas!
was that a typo terram?
how did the ...a.... get in the word divs?

wouldn't like to insult tradesmen.....good ones are hard to find. My plumber is excellent but not good with his m.phone.
Actually he should have told you - it's expelling the air, as you state, but will also push out small amounts of water. It'll take a day or two to settle at the correct pressure etc. Had exactly the same here after our copper cylinder was changed recently.

I'd suggest wrapping a towel around the pipe under the valve and letting it be for a few days, call him if it's still doing this in a week. DON'T try tighten it!
I totaly agree with terambulan. Give it a few days to settle before calling him back you do not want a call out charged because he could not find anything wrong...
sounds like youve got a combi boiler ...the little plastic nipple on the top is like a dust cap on a car tyre....it shouldnt alow water out only air once system is filled and settled you can turn it clockwise till shut down to prevent leaking ...although idealy the a.a.v automatic air vent needs replacing...i would sugest waiting till next service.

Update....plumber excused himself due to back-pain! Found Polish plumber; he replaced the air-vent fitting unit all for 30! It works perfikly.
