My son has just heard something on the news about it being a new law about the motorcycle jacket airbag system.
I can't find it online, anyone got a link?
This would have saved danny's life 31st August 2007, he was killed instantly when his heart valve was shattered when he hit the lamppost with his chest.
It is too late for him but it sounds like a real lifesaver.

Yes there are bike meccas in any county, we have Devils Bridge and Rivington barn, and the roads around here are full of groups of bikers on a summers day, oh and over Belmont is another dangerous spot. The bikers who race over there are putting only themeselves at risk, those weekend bikers that gather at Devil's Bridge are usually car drivers in the week like my bloke is, he gets there on the M6 and I know he does a ton or more when the road is clear it's supposed to be what the bike is for he says. There isn't much more to add to this as Dr Filth has the statistics.
Its been a good discussion Drfilth, but I will correct you on one, HGVs are not allowed in the 3rd lane unless instructed, Safe riding & let us carry on with a good site. T.W.R.

that is why i mentioned it my mates car nearly went under the back.car in middle lane doing about 60mph inside lane empty.artic came out into 3rd lane to overtake. my mate was in CAR (not bike) overtaking down the outside lane.

So the upshot of most of these responses is that motorcyclists think that everybody else is at fault for accidents involving bikers.

That may even be true, but

Which would you rather do, wear something that could save your life or your ability to walk, cuddle your kids, make more kids or even have a cr*p without assistance, or carry on blaming everybody else for 500+ deaths a year?

In their findings after an investigation of each crash just over 98% of all crashes were the fault of the other vehicle.

Why not try to educate the other drivers . Some people
obviously are not proficient enough to drive on the Queens highway.
Next time some motorcycle is hit by another vehicle ask yourself this . Would that driver see my mum or dad crossing the road. The answer is probably NO
Although I hold a Class 1 Drfirth & I was in the position your mate was in i would have taken the HGV's No & reported the Incident,

How many prats driving cars?, today I reckon it was one in four on my way to work ,and many were turning left or right with one hand on the wheel and no EYES on the road. God help us motorcyclists, we need bazookas , not airbags, to wake the dozy gits up in cages.
Good idea in theory but only work in certain types of accidents. If you dont ride bikes it is impossible to comment on the pros and cons. Also its only the huge companies that have the research and developement budget to develop these ideas. If it became law (which I doubt it will) what happens to the 1000's of other motorcycle clothing manufacturers that cant fulfil the legal requirement. Can you imagne the loss of jobs? You cant remove the risk of riding a bike because its a dangerous pursuit. I know, last year the car was following on the motorway shed its load of 3 mountain bikes at me. Knocked unconcious, broken shoulder, ribs and a ride in the air ambulance. Good quality gear saved my life, but and inflatable device wouldnt have helped.
