Seriously do you think hanging/the death sentance should be bought back. I dont think I've ever spoken to anyone who is against it.

I woud sat yes - but only for paedophiles and drink drivers. That said, I've never been a victim, directly or indirectly, of serious crime, so it is only my viewpoint.
Further to my last post, having read the others from some of the more liberal members, they may want to bear in mind the damage caused not just to the victim, but to their families. I think a lot of us, myself included, may moan and complain about our stressful lives. Stressful things like an unexpected steep gas bill, being stuck in traffic, or somebody else being promoted at work instead of us. Now look at Sarah Payne's dad Michael, previously a hard working man with 3 children and a wife. Look at him now. A psychological wreck through no fault of his own. Having had to sit in court listening to his daughter's last few minutes alive, developing a serious drink problem because getting plastered means you don't think about it. Taking the anger out on his wife because she takes her anger out in him. Think about his other kids who have to live the rest of their lives knowing what happened to their daughter. I suggest next time any of us moan that we're "stressed" we take a minute to think of Michael Payne.

Philtaz, it was not supposed to be an analogy.  I just wanted to estblish that you did not advocate the death penalty for all murders.  Now you are faced with a subjective decision who you are going to kill, and who gets life imprisonment (and is therefore out in 10-15 years).  And you will not agree with

one of the thousands of links on cost.....

http://www.thepubliccause.net/DeathPenalty.html

It will also provide you with supporting arguments - bottom line is that people will not agree

Thanks for the link Bangkok, it's very interesting.  As you say and as is being borne out here, people do not agree.

You are correct, I do not advocate the death penalty for all murders, heinous though many are. However I do believe in the death penalty for child rapists/murderers, particularly those who were offered help/therapy for their deviances but refused, only to re-offend with even more vigour.

Quite right Andy008.  The liberal's who protest against the possible re-introduction of the death penalty all too often forget the families of the victims.  They are left to serve out their own life sentence of loss, grief and emotional torture which in my mind is a far worse fate than any life sentence handed out to Roy Whiting et al.

So we should measure the grief of the victim's family, and if it's bad enough then we should kill the person who we have convicted of killing people?

Why not?  How else do you measure the impact of the loss of a child, in the most vicious and disturbing of circumstances?  To the offender they are just a piece of meat, a plaything to be discarded and disposed of after their sexual gratification has been sated.

How would YOU measure the loss of an innocent child, abducted, raped and murdered whilst walking the street MargeB?  Just another statistic?  One of Britain's poor unfortunates who happened to be on the wrong street at the wrong time as the 'misunderstood' were giving in to their baser instincts?

If I didn't know differently I would hazard a guess that you were the sister of Roy Whiting or Ian Huntley.

The attitude you display makes me want to vomit when an innocent child is lured by one of these perverts, only to become the object of a sick desire and pay the ultimate price for nothing more than walking the street.

yes and no if 100% certain of crime committed yes .otherwise no what would have happened to the birmingham six if hanging had been lawfull

Philtaz, I take serious issue with your suggestion that because I do not subscribe to your position on capital punishment that I somehow condone violence towards children and that I conform to the position of those who may support convicted child attackers. Your posting is highly offensive and I believe it may be illegal.

ABEditor, I would urge you to remove this person's posting and give serious consideration to a ban on this user.

Come off it MargeB, you accused me of reading the tabloids!
By the way, your last question at the top of the page.  That is what happens in the USA and is being considered for this country in order to determine the severity of punishment.(But obviously not for the death penalty in this country).
I don't care what it is, your comments are completely out of order and you have very much overstepped the mark.
Question Author
OK so most of you say no, well can you honestly tell me that whoever stabbed Abigail Witchalls in the back of the neck and has almost certainly left her paralysed from the neck down for the rest of her life, in front of her young child, does not deserve the death sentance?

I'm sorry but I don't think people like this can be, or deserve to have the chance of rehabilitation at our expense. I say kill murderers, attempted murderers, hard drug traffickers, paedophiles, and terrorists. Rapists should be castrated or hung.

why should we do that?
To stop them from being a danger to law abiding, innocent people. Torture them!!!!!!!!!!
What kind of signal would that send out to those growing up in society? That's it's ok to torture another human being as long as you think you have a good reason for it?
If we're going to execute attempted murderers, we might as well do the same to drivers who exceed the speed limits and are responsible for a lot of deaths. (They are, after all, not innocent and law-abiding, are they?)
And the same for any of our troops who shoot civilians in warzones I guess, or bomber pilots who kill children, or 12 year old insurgents/terrorists whose only method of gaining food is to fight. . .
This issue has just flared up on "News". Go and have a look.
