I am thinking about a career change and a friend believes that I would be able to make a living as a gardener. It is something I really enjoy doing but am not sure if people would employ a female gardener as they may think I wouldn't work as hard as a male? What do you think?

There are many competent female gardeners these days and
probably a lot more competent than the average male gardener.
I certainly would have no inhibitions about employing a female gardener.

Anyone got Charlie Dimmocks number?
I tell you what, the people at the end of our road have a young lady gardener & she really grafts!

She trims all the hedges & shrubs nicely & it's a pleasure to walk by it.

Don't know what the back garden looks like tho'! ;o}

Yes, my husband does!!
My Mum used to employ a female gardner. I think that especially older people will feel more comfortable employing a female rather than male gardner.
I'd get a female gardener definately, would feel a lot more comfortable with a female gardener than a male one actually.
My friend is a female gardener. :)

I think some people would be more agreeable to employing a woman than a man, especially if they are lone women or single mums.
Hey go for it, I know a lady who is a gardener and she is brilliant, she works far harder than most of the blokes she works with and also knows a lot more than them, we have women plumbers and sparkys now so a woman gardener is hardly very rare, you should definitely do it, good luck, Ray
I would definitely employ you. My male gardener is a total unreliable slacker, but my Mother is a great gardener.

Thanks in anticipation
I have also recently had a career change from office worker to female gardener and had plenty of clients so far (in fact more offers of work than I can deal with) and my gender certainly hasn't been a problem at all - in fact it's probably worked to my advantage! Perhaps you could try and get onto the age concern approved traders list - you need proof of public liability insurance, references and a CIB check.
