Does anyone know what this is? for the past few months once or twice a week I have been waking up suddenly about 3 or 4 am gasping for breath with my heart pounding in my chest , neck and head, I have pains and palpitations in my head, eye`s and chest. All of this then calms down after about 5 minutes or so and all`s well, I then fall back to sleep with no problems. I have recently had an ECG and my heart is perfect! I don`t eat before bed and i`m not fat. I have high blood pressure problems but taking tablets for it.
Have anyone else had these effects?

Maybe Sleep Apnoea. This is often treated with a C-Pap Machine, which helps regulate breathing whilst you sleep. Ask your GP to refer you to a sleep disorder clinic, for further investigation.
My wife suffers from this. I'll often lie awake listening to her laboured breathing and then it will suddenly stop for up to 30 seconds, which seems like a lifetime. I gently wake her enough (by telling her to breathe) for her to turn over and resume her sleep.
I wish she'd seek further medical advice but her doctor, when told years ago, basically shrugged it off and my wife says she'd never wear a pap mask.
there could possibabley be another reason for this I found this on a web site by putting in my symptoms , not similar to yours but some of the other sufferers of this have reported that they have similar events happen .. to them durring their episodes google "hypnic jerks"... but what ever in any case you should def go see a doctor its the best cause of action for ay concern .

all the best..
