please can anyone tell me if you can paint a carpet a different colour ?, i am sure i have read/seen it some where, the one we have is a very good quality one and it will out live us , but its very red and its a very busy pattern its too much of a pattern all different colours too,this same carpet goes through the lounge/diner ,up the stairs and across the top of landing , no way can we afford to replace it ,any help would be greatly appreciated, many thanks,...dizzy devil

Surely not, although if you are very old you may recall that Toyah Wilcox told of how she had painted a carpet, but the point of the story was not that it was a good idea, but a wierd one.
I've dyed a plain carpet, but I don't think you could cover up a busy pattern. Incidentally, to dye a plain carpet: mix cold dye (Dylon) in a bowl, then make sweeps over the carpet with a scrubbing brush dipped in the bowl - result a swirly dyed carpet that doesn't show the bits as much as the plain one!

If for example you have a green carpet and you want it blue, then the simple answer is buy a blue carpet.

I can't see anyone saying "the Queen is coming to visit us. We haven't got a red carpet, so we'll just paint this blue carpet red".
