Every time I have closed down my computer these last few days, it tells me that it is first downloading a Microsoft update.

Is this normal?

Yup, me too..!! I have even gone in to Windows update and tried to manually download the updates. On completion it says updates satisfactory but when closing down it tries to run the updates again....

Whats happening??

Anyone ???
I would go into start-programs-windows updatesand choose the time that you want updates installing. then they would be installed automatically without disturbing you. Mine is 3 am . Hope this helps you

Mine is also set at 3.00am, andres.

But I do not leave my computer running during the night.

My default browser is Fire Fox and not Internet Explorer, so I don't know whether or not this makes a difference?
Hi anotheoldgit I don't leave my pc running all night .I always turn it off but I don' t remove the power plug. The updates are installed at 3am and next time I tune into the internet they get dowloaded in the background. They don't interfere with anything that i am doing . I don't know anything about firefox though sorry

Thanks andres

I do the same, leave the plug in overnight.

It could be due to me not using Microsoft Explorer as my default browser, perhaps why they don't download until I come to close down.

Set your Windows Update time to when there is power to your PC. If your computer is switched off nothing can happen, whether the plug is left in or not.If you have the Update time set for 3am and you do not switch PC on until say 8am then you have missed automatic update time and need to download the Updates manually.
I have set my PC to download Updates at 8am daily but if I miss this deadline I have to do it myself

Thank you redman reset it to 12.00 Noon, see how it goes.
Using Firefox shouldn't make any difference. The downloads come through your internet connection, not your browser.
If you do have it set to update at 12.00 noon as you say , if one day the computer is turned off at the time it will try again the next day
