eggs

when clearing a part of my garden, I found buried in soft soil, two what looked like large size chicken eggs, brownish in colour undamaged.
How did they get there,as far as I am aware,there are no chickens nearby?
any ideas?

could be a fox, weasel or stoat - all these bury excess food and a nice soft soil patch not disturbed (until recently) fits the larder bill to perfection

Carmalee is probably right, I give my foxes a couple of raw egg with their titbits, they eat the food there and then, then carry the eggs away and bury them, I watch them nearly every night. I hope you left the eggs where they were!

I thought it was most likely a fox ,we did have a vixen and two cubs in the garden last year,very cheeky, came right up to the back door.lovely animals. Unfortuanately, the eggs did get broken, I did not know they were there untill exposed by the rake.
