I am sorry this isn't my usual crossword questions, but I am wondering if you know of any good spyware software out there, as I have been infected with a virus that has tried to transfer 3, 500 from my account, I have all the usual avg's and firewalls in place, but this didn't stop it. This is driving me crazy with worry :(

You could ask the techies over in Technology; they are very knowlegeable about computers and viruses.
Have NOD32 virus protection which is most excellent- would recommend it. Yet, agree with kayakamina, ask in Technology. Warm wishes, Bea :-)

Thank you both, I have asked in tech as well, but I trust my friends here in crosswords to help me out. I downloaded a free spyware trial yesterday that told me I had a trojan, but I had to pay to remove it, but I am becoming neurotic, wondering if they have said it's there just to make me pay:D
I use spyware Detector. It has never let me down, and is very fast after the first run, and is inexpensive. Good luck.

Thanks plum 40 can you give me the full name and website:D
I had this happen to me some time ago and I was told to take the computer back to factory installation. I had a disc in my pack that did this for me with full instructions . Ask technolgy if this might help because I don't want to make it worse if I'm not right
Tinkie

The "free spyware trial" is a known trick to get you to part with money!!

This is just one of many similar complaints:

It also has some info on how to get rid of these pests.

Thank you moyeruk, I will have to ask someone to do it for me, as I am just a graphics designer and know nothing about the installation procedures etc :D

Thank you plum40:D
I don't know who your broadband provider is, but I'm with Virgin and they provide an excellent spy detection service free with their internet connections. They also have a useful customer care team, who help with removing viruses etc from your computer. Hope this is of some help, good luck with sorting it out x
Hi tinkie - apologies for not being around earlier, but you've had better answers than I could have provided!

Hope all is well otherwise? :-)
Having no crystal ball to hand it would be difficult to give advice that would sort your problem - might might head you to the right place.
Make of computer?
Operating system? - browser email client?
What security software are you using?
Is this a virus or malware?
What information/warning windows did you get - error events etc?
What have you tried to do to rid your system of this malware - have you scanned recently and the results?
Do you know a reputable computer shop - not a multiple type. One where they will need your OS discs to clean and reinstall the operating system for you and make sure they have a backup disc of your docs etc.
Do you backup your system regularly?
Do you know what system restore is?
If there is a need to do a complete system restore, do you have the OS discs etc?
Sorry, the list can go on, but albeit the advice given so far, sound as it is, nothing individual will sort you out.
Have you heard of newsgroups - they are the best for self help, have the best in the business, give their time free and know more about hardware/software than the manufacturers own technicians.
If you can answer the first six questions, you are welcome to email me at my spamtrap address, which is 'munged'
Just remove 'spamkill' and you will have the address.
[email protected]
Yes Virgin do have PCGuard - it is good, but like Norton and McAfee it is 'bloatware' - I would not have any on my system.
Good luck

Thank you for all your help, sorry I didn't get back to you earlier as I had to go shopping and Lie-in king I will speak to you tomorrow, that wil cheer me up and r.antioch I will find out the answers and get back to you Thanks I am also receiving loads of e-mails of a sexual nature, do you know if this is part of it:D
Before I forget, in previous message, it should read - remove _spamkill and not just spamkill.
It sounds as if your email address has been compromised and has been harvested by 'spammers'. Most IP/ISPs these days have antispam services - see if yours provides such a service as mine does.
This may mean changing your email address - inconvenient I know.
It is recommended that you have more than one address for different purposes.
I have six running at any one time - four have never been compromised - the other two I change as and when - I also use 'throw-away' email addresses.
