I've had permission from them to post this thread & I hope you don't think that I'm being presumptuous by asking for your assistance.

Some of you may remember that some years ago I was posting about my friend Anne & her cancer treatment & many of you were kind enough to proffer your good wishes, for which we were very grateful.

A problem (understatement!) has arisen whereby she & her partner Rod could use your help once again, so I'm taking the unusual step (for me) of posting a link to a petition site -

https://www.change.org/en-GB/petitions/derek-newton-revoke-the-unfair-eviction-of-vulnerable-pensioners-rod-taylor-and-anne-gavin

Scrolling down, you'll find links to the heart of the matter & the first link -

http://wylam.boatersrights.org/ - gives further links.

If I may be so bold as to ask you all for your support by signing the petition (it's free, you'll get a confirmation email & you can "unsubscribe" whenever you wish), it would mean a great deal to me & to Rod & Anne.

This isn't just about their mooring - this could affect anyone with a permanent mooring in the UK.

If you don't agree, fair enough - though if you do, please sign & get the numbers up. I don't use Facebook, but if anyone thinks Rod & Anne are being treated unfairly & are on FB, could you spread the word please?

As always, thanks for your time & attention, L-i K

Thank you all for your interest - I've just spoken with Rod & they're all ready for the meeting in the morning. He's promised to let me know how it goes & I'll pass it on here as soon as I can.

The petition now stands at 1,986.

Good afternoon everyone! I've just heard from Anne that the meeting went entirely their way - the eviction notice has been withdrawn & their mooring is safe!

They won on every point brought up & it was noted that the social media interest had a great effect on the decision & they've asked me to once again thank you all most sincerely for your help - you really made a difference!

On a personal note, I thank you all too - the kindness & thoughtfulness of AB'ers stopped astonishing me a long time ago :-))

What brilliant news Maj - they (and you) must be thrilled. Now they can relax and enjoy life on the water again. A huge relief all round.
It's great news L-iK, and more power to them for standing up to bullying!

Best wishes Rod and Anne x
Am sincerely pleased, nay, delighted for them!!

Wonderful news and thank you for letting us know kingy xx

It's great news & will allow Rod & Anne to relax after some trying times. The following is an email I received just now - I've taken out the names of a boat & two people as I don't believe they're relevant.

"Very many thanks to everybody for their fantastic support and effort which has gone into the 'Rights For Boaters' campaign coupled with 'save the old gits from eviction' ticket.

It has been agreed that:-

The brokerage will be discontinued. Nothing is selling so there is no point!

Self employment is ok unless it directly involves the physical use of the boat or the marina and then permission must be sought

It is ok to have friends and family staying providing we give BWML details of who is on board for safety reasons and the issuing of fobs.

I will take out a Residential contract for the renewal of **** **** and **** and ***** can stay there for the next 6 months whilst I am trying to sell her. If not sold after that an extension must be negotiated.

The 10 year deal can be transferred when the boat is sold with whatever time is left on the contract.

Darren Bramhall was almost human and congratulated me on putting a very good case in the Court. He said that he wants to go forward in the spirit of co-operation!

Love to everyone, Rod & Anne"

Should there be any more news, I'll start another thread when appropriate but will keep an eye on this one & answer any more posts when I can.

It might be getting boring, but I have to say thank-you to everyone again :-))

Didn't see the good news before signing, so congratulations to them. Right has triumphed!
I would like to add my support to Rod and Anne. I think their eviction threat is totally cruel and unfair. Wendy Hambling, Omagh Co. Tyrone

Thank you JandyAF - the fact that you took the the time to sign means a lot! :-)

The following is the final paragraph from the last letter that Rod received -

"This now brings the matter to a close and will enable you to remain at the Marina and enjoy your retirement."

The support they had from AB was tremendous & helped them realise that they weren't alone in their struggle.

From me, once again, thank you from the bottom of my heart :-))
