Hi .. how long does it take for alcolhol to disappear from food ? ie if I add wine to a dish and cook it, can I take it that the alcohol has been burned off,  and is it then safe to give to my toddler ? Thanks Nickie

Depends on the dish but assuming that you allow the liquid to reduce without a lid for about 20 minutes no problem.

I have always added half a bottle of red wine to my bolognese sauce and it never had any effect on my kids - except that they kept asking for more!

I do Goulash for my little guy (18 months) and I throw in a good slug of port - and he is fine, but I suspect he has inherited his mothers' "lush" tendencies!!  Personally I would say it's ok to have a little, but hell, you just *know* that there will be somebody up in arms about it.  Never did me any harm as a kid!

Happy cooking!
