Anyone out there know the cause or a cure for Restless Leg Syndrome? It's driving me mad! I get it the minute I get into bed and even when I'm just sitting in the armchair. For those of you who don't know what it is it's a terrible urgency to move your legs or "kick out" - feels like theres something crawling under the skin. It's dreadful. Any sufferers out there with a cure? Thanks.

numb your leg with excess amounts of morphine? haha! sorry about that! the only advice i could give you is maybe take up tap dancing? well if your legs going to have a mind of its own you may as well make some money from it!
My friend suffers with it jo. She takes quinine tablets on "Script". Another tip he gave her was for her to make herself as uncomfy as possible. I have'nt got a clue why.
Try mind over matter. When the annoyance occurs pinch yourself elsewhere so the brain concentrates on the pinch. Release when you've had enuf pinch. The 'tic' should go.
Horrible isn't it!

I tried tonic water for the quinine but I can't stand the stuff so used to put voltarol gel on and have a cool blower which seemed to help but the voltarol started thinning my skin (think leg shaving disaster!).

I've got arthritis, am hypermobile and just been diagnosed as vitamin D deficient so my rhumatologist had recommended amitrtiptyline for general pain which has helped as it numbs the effect of the pain a bit and helps me sleep through it so helps the restless legs as well.

Have you tried tonic water or see if your GP can find a cause or see if quinine tablets help?
It's horrid isn't it. I usually have to resort to plunging my feet in a sink of extremely cold water. Although when it happens when I'm in the cinema - that's not always possible. Well it is - but you get funny looks in the cinema toilets....
it's awful isn't it? i haven't had a bout of it for maybe 10 or more years but remember it well. the only thing that helped me was to lie on my back with legs in the air as high as possible and sort of shake my legs around for a few minutes, or as long as i could bear to. this was recommended to me but i can't remember where from.
you have my sympathy, it's a horrible thing.
Try taking magnesium. It has helped my m.i.l
Its tonic water for me.Always works and for cramp. You can make it a gin and tonic if preferred or get the tonic water with a twist of lime or lemon.Tastes a bit more pleasant.
Arnica Gel is a great help with restless leg syndrome. You spread it over the affected area but don't rub in, just let it be absorbed through the skin. If you Google it, you will find it at a good price.

Thank you all so much for replying. I will try anything! x
I found wearing flight socks helped, not very glam, but did the trick. The other thing is that there is a pressure point a couple of inches down from the crease at the back of your knee and about an inch or so in from the inside of your leg, which if massaged makes the blood flow quicker and alleviates the terrible feeling of having to move your legs. Haven't explained it very well, but maybe some medical type person who had an inkling of acupunture things might be able to locate it for you? You have my sympathies anyway.
A quarter of an aspirin before I go to bed always settles mine down.
