Until 1972 which was the only Horserace in the U.K. open to female Jockeys. I came up with the Newmarket Town Four Mile race but don't know if it is right.

It is actually called the Newmarket Town Plate and was won by girls prior to 1972. They could also ride in point to points before that time so not a very well worded quiz question.

There is very little difference betwenn the two sexes if any in the equestrian world of show jumping or eventing anyhow, so cannot see why it would be any different in horse racing. Not that am a fan of horse racing as do not like the way they whip the horses to the point of cruelty methinks. Also, not keen on the whole gambling issue either especially in these recession times + the problem the UK already has with a growing debt issue. Women fighting in wars for the army or navy- now that is something not happy about!! Women sailors love as in Ellen MacArthur :-)

Hugs, Bea :-)
