american golfer 1960s major went into last three holes with 4 shot lead. An opponent sank a 20 foot birdie at 16 th saved par with 40 foot putt on 17 th sank a 60 foot birdie at 18 th forcing playoff next day. who were they. any help appreciated many thanks.

Here we go - another member of the thought police, DaiFawkes. The bunch of self-aggrandising moralists on Answerbank make me so angry. Why is your view so important that you have to have your say about cheats, etc. They are only quizzes for heaven's sake.

mattydog - It is a COMPETITION which people are actually paying to enter.
Imagine your favourite football team facing another side with 15 players in. It gives the opposition a huge advantage.
Putting the questions on AB throws the answer to everyone who is able to look, especially if it a difficult to find one.
It may be just a quiz to some but asking a question from this quiz without naming it is not playing the game!
We are not "self-aggrandising moralists" we are only asking to be left alone to pursue our hobby - quizzes - without the world and their granny getting free answers with no effort being expended.

Quizmail is actually now non existant because people asking for the answers saw it go out of business with too many correct answers therefore not enough prize money to go round.
LearnBurn is the new venture with NO prize money but �10 to pay for the questions. Presumably there is still the accolade of being top of the league.

I've been doing Quizmail, and paying my money, for the past 5 years.
During none of that time have I been in the least bit miffed about people asking questions on here or anywhere else. Whatever it takes as long as you enjoy it - and seeing questions or answers on here has had no affect on me - it is only a quiz. Nobody has to look at Answerbank, it's entirely voluntary, unlike those who seek to control what may or may not be asked because a quiz has a month or two to go. I've said before that whenever I see people trying to have a go at others for asking questions on this site I will give an answer, if I have one of course.

I only came on here to explain that Quizmail's changed to LearnBurn.
I did Quizmai from its second year until the end of last year to get rich.
I've never noticed you helping anyone.
I'm not remotely interested in your point of view and will continue to 'guard' GFQ when people ask for answers when we are told not to.
