I went to disneyland paris four years ago and I didn't think it was all that good, the shops are good, but theres only a few good rides, of course that was 4 years ago and its probably all changed now.
I was there in 1999 and would suggest the following.

Get there early
Try to get hold of a site map before you go so that you have an idea of the layout before you get there
Dont try to do EVERYTHING - concentrate on seeing/doing 10 things rather than queuing and attempting to see 30 things. You will spend a LOT of time queuing and there are many nationalities who think that they are "exempt for queuing" and will jump the queue as often as they can and often you will THINK you are 10 people from the front of a queue and suddenly someone in front of you invites their 10 "relatives" to join them in front of you.
MOST IMPORTANT - there is a parade of the characters through the park in the middle of the day and it is nearly impossible to get from north/south or it may be east/west as this parade travells through the park. Be ready - KNOW when the parade is going to happen and be on the side of the park you want to be BEFORE it starts/
We went to the resort in Feb 1/2 term 2004, with 2 children aged 10 and 8. They thoroughly enjoyed themselves. The food inside the park is very expensive for what basically consists of baguettes/crisps/cakes etc. We went  had 4 days in the park inc MGM and managed to do everything that we wanted to. There are some fast rides and it is a good idea to get the fast track timed tickets for those. There was a lot of pushing and shoving for autographs when the characters appeared, but there were spots where you had to form a proper queue and you had individual time with the character, which was better. Which hotel are you staying at?
It's a few years since we were there but the food and drinks were quite expensive. If you're not that bothered about the parades this is a good time to go on the rides as the queues are not so long. Best Rides? Thunder Mountain, Haunted House and Pirates Of The Caribbean in my view.
