I have a recipe for a fat-free fruit cake which I would like to try. However the measurements are very strange.
It starts
1lb (400g) mixed dried fruit
1 beaten egg
OK so far
Then
1 mug hot tea
1 mug soft brown sugar
2 mugs SR flour
As my mug rack has 12 mugs of varying sizes, this could be a problem!
Would American cups do??
If anyone has any idea of what a 'mug' should weigh, I'd be very pleased to know!

LOL..that IS odd. I would go for American cups also...or a range of 8-10 ounces-----NOT weight but liquid measure. As long as you use the same cup for all the measurements, you will be fine.Let us know how it turns out.

the recipe is for a tea cake ..or barm brack ...
I have a recipe for a yogurt cake and you use the yogurt pot that contained the yougurt as a measure for the flour,sugar, oil ect. makes no difference what size pot you use as long as you use same one to measure the other stuff,so i would imagine the same applys to the cup you use in this recipe.Would be intrested to know if it works,can you let us know if it does :-)
i have a similar recipe:

1 mug sultanas, rasins or mixed

soaked overnight in one mug tea

next day add 1 mug wholemeal flour

and 1 mug skimmed milk.

as long as the recepticle is the same throughout, it doesn't really matter what size it is.
