If we get any in this country, it's usually pitiful and doesn't last. Try living in Canada - a friend of mine visits from there & finds it hilarious how we all panic at the prospect of a couple of inches... ;-)

Although the temperatures are low in canada and the snowfall is heavy for 5-6 months of the year it is shortsighted to laugh at UK weather, the air in the UK is significantly damper than that of canada so in this country
-4 actually feels much worse than -15 in canada, the dampness also penetrates the joints causing a lot of ailments.

canadians are prepared for this weather and use snow tyres and chains as standard, the air is dry so the temperature does not penetrate the body and make you feel really cold and ill. We barely get snowfall in this country so its unsurprising that people struggle to cope, we also do not have the benefits of snow tyres and years of experience.
