made bombs and things?
You might be advised to read Alistair Cooke's 'American Journey' (Life on the Home Front in the Second World War)
It details how Cooke as a young journalist was assigned to visit every US State to find out what American industries were doing to contribute to the war effort.
It is a facinating read. It is a while now since I read it, but one thing stuck in my mind. I forget a lot of the details, but one manufacturer was asked to build new ships to replace the ones Britain was losing on the convoys. He had never built a ship in his life, but he managed to get the build time down to about a week, whereas the conventional builders were taking several months
Sorry to be picky, but which war do you mean?
