expect me hiding in your suitcase Charlize!!

Depends what you're in to. If you like boozing all night with lot's of Americans on the pull/lash, and getting sunburnt on hyper-developed beach resorts you'll love it!

I went on a cheap flight last November and found it wasn't for me after a couple of days and caught a bus south across the border to the Belize island of Caye Caulker. Much less developed (i.e. the main street was sand). Absolutely loved it (and i like to booze and smoke as well).

Though if your there for a week i'd recommend jumping straight on the boat out to Isla Mujueros, an island just off Cancun. It has all the facilities and none of the heavy duty over-development.

You have to have lots of strawberry margheritas - they're fantastic, and alot stronger than they taste.  It is very developed, but I'm guessing that's why you're going there. We stayed in an all inclusive place, which was by the far the cheapest option, as eating and drinking out is quite pricey. The beaches are fantastic, and a couple of day trips I'd really recommend are Chichen Itza (sp?) and Xcharet (sp again?) These are both once in a lifetime kind of trips.

Have fun - I'm jealous!
