So, years ago, Harry referred to an Army pal with an offensive word.

(yes, the term "p@ki" is both nasty and offensive ... that is not in issue).

But was this particular friend offended by it?

He met Harry in the Army. His chosen career (ignoring the glamorous uniform) is to shoot as many of the enemy as possible, and to make them bleed and, hopefully, die. The more people he causes to die, then the more successfully he has done has job.

If that is your chosen career, then you need to be made of "sterner stuff".

The enemy will shoot at this friend. They will try kill him. If they capture him, they will torture him in horrid, painful ways.

But crikey ... let's hope they don't call him by a rude name !!!

I support the Royal family and I always have. They are human.....are you sure Dot....the three most prominent idiots Andrew, William and Harry, seem to live on another planet....

s54 ... I think we all agree.

My starting point is, the sad fact that the offensive word used by Harry is now back in the public consciousness

is not because Harry used it ...

... it's because the Press have spent the last few days hammering it back into our heads.
On yesterday's news

Top story - Harry called a p@ki a p@ki

Next - hundreds killed in Gaza

Are we all going mad ??
lol jj you are right........but it is sometimes more dangerous facing mrs maverick when i have lost than it was facing saddams elite guard.................lol
It is very easy to throw stones at people who can't throw them back. would you live in the same bubble? I know I'm quite happy to bumble along making mistakes, but not many people notice mine. Sometimes being a nobody is bliss.
ooo gourmander can do italics!

BigDave ...

Prominent story in the Guardian ...

A Govt. Survey has shown that the worst "litter" offenders in town centres are McDonald's, KFC and Subway.

I think the only shocking element to that story is finding out that the Govt. needed to pay for a "Survey" to tell them that !!!

Well ... Duuhh !!!
Eh? cop out.
Yea JJ

I remember a few years ago they had a survey that showed if they built new roads that people used them.

I think I'll start a new business doing surveys for the Govt.

I'll call it ...

"Bleeding Obvious Conclusions Ltd"
doesn't matter if it's bleedin' obvious or not, if you want to make a case of it you need the facts. If you tried to prosecute McDonald's over the amount of litter and they said in court 'prove it', then you might have to. So now they have; and the facts might be enough to shame McDonald's into doing better. An awful lot of stuff (on AB as elsewhere) is just anecdotal - all Muslims are terrorists, apparently. Policies need to be based on facts.

As for Harry, the problem with his offensiveness isn't that he's a soldier, it's that he's third in line to the throne. If we're going to be ruled by a soldier, I'd sooner it was Colin Powell. I'm going to let Harry off this time because it was years ago and he might have learnt some manners since then. I've got nothing in principle against the royals either, Dot, they're quite cheap as figureheads go. But if they're going to be our rulers, I want their mouths washed out with soap and water thank you.
The best way to get rid of the `P` word and the `N` word is to ignore them when they`re said instead of ithem being front page headlines

As people have said, they are not everyday words but the more they get front page headlines the more they`ll keep being used
