The only answer I can get to fit is 'greet'. But don't see how it fits with the clue except for 'Welcome'.
The clue is:- Welcome to cry in Scotland; 5 letters and I have *r*e*. So, any help would be appreciated. Many thnks in anticipation. B.

The response, as usual, is overwhelming. Many thanks to you all for the rapid and educational replies. As a many times removed Welshman I am unsurprised I was not up to speed on this! Many thanks again. B.
Sorry HarryWragg- it is more of a Scottish colloquialism, a Scottish dialect word. Apologies. Yet, the link did provide examples to understand the word better for non Scots unfamiliar with the Scottish term Greet- that was my intention, not to upset ;-) any Scots here. Have friends whom are Scottish + one very good friend from Bellshill- he calls me his English rose lassie friend. Take care + happy puzzling ;-)

Hugs, Bea :-)
