I got 500 yesterday.

Should I spend it on *me* or should I save it just in case I cannot make a mortgage payment if I'm made redundant?

Bear in mind I have guaranteed wages until the 2nd week in March and I will have redundancy money too, if I don't pick up another job.

If you say spend it, what should I buy?

p.s. This is my first CB post of 2009 :o)

And proud of it ;o)
Lol!
WellLakitu, you won't get much of a decent telescope for less than 200, but neither do you have to go mad and spend a fortune at first. My son's got one that cost about 245, and it's brilliant! : )
DO it - you know you want to!!
If she's just perving on the neighbours, a 10 pair of binos from Aldi will do a fine enough job.

She's just trying to show off now....."extreme close up" went out with Waynes World!!
Question Author
What kind has your son got and does it give him a clear view of all the planets?

It's saturn and venus I'm excited to see.

LOL @ Wayne's world
I'm sorry Lakitu, I refuse to believe you have enough shoes.

Imelda Marcos has nothing on me!! :p
Question Author
You're right, a girl can never have too much shoes.

Or bags.

Or lipsticks.

Or perfume.

Or nice undies.
Son's just come in from school Lakitu. I'll find out for later. Can't trmember the make of the thing, but it's got this little "computerised" thing on it. You press onto what you want to see - and it homes in on it for you. That's the basic idea anyway. Very good.
Or no undies.....!
i bought a telescope from Aldi for my nephew ..
it was brilliant ..he still uses it ...so have
a go at star gazing ....
Question Author
Now THAT'S a brilliant idea, telling it what you want to see!

Thank you, I look forward to seeing what he says x

as a beginner i would go for a national geographic basic one , actually you can get a good viw of Jupiter and saturnb just now as they are very very clear in the sky.
Question Author
Thank you, Dot, I think I will take a saunter to Jessops to see if they sell any. I'll have a look through the yellow pages to see if there are any specialist shops nearby so I can benefit from the sales assistants knowledge too.

:o) x
no for your first one just go to Argos and spend about 150, that will do you until you feel you are really interested, they are quite simple to use and fairly good as a beginners. You should also get some of Patrick Moores books for beginners, they will really help you identify what you are looking at.
Put in in the Corvette savings account... ;)
Question Author
Is this the one, Dot?

What makes this one more expensive? See, this is what I don't know, what make a telescope 'good'.

I received a Watersyones gift card for Christmas, strangely enough, I've thought of the perfect way to use it LOL

LOL Queenie, if I was putting it in a car fund, it would be for the Aston x
the second one has greater magnification, the first one my son had a few years ago as his first one, he did use it alot and though he found it a bit unsteady sometimes, he learnt about the calculations and the changing lenses. He spent alot of time studying the constelayions so that he could set out to find what he wanted to look at, he's quite scientifically minded anyway and understand weather which helps lol
also donl;t forget that if you live where there is alot of light polution, i''e street lighting, you will see nothing much anyway.
Question Author
Excellent, I wouldn't say I'm particularly scientifically minded but I have watched and read enough about both the weather and space (wetaher fascinates me too, I'd love to go tonado chasing LOL) to (hopefully) get by.

You really can't go wrong with Nat Geo, so I'm going to head to Argos and treat myself. As it happens, I'm just having a coffee and heading to Next for a 'nice interviewing outfit' and Argos is right next door :o)

Thanks you for your help, Dot, I might have to shout on your son later LOL xx
Question Author
There's hardly any street lighting where I live, there is a lampost outside my balcony that isn't working.

I'm 10 minutes from the Countryside though, so I'm happy to do that to see if need be :o)
