I am so cheap I only buy second hand music CDs from amazon.co.uk. Well, at least I buy them rather than download them. I have had no trouble with credit card fraud but sometimes the sellers aren't in a great hurry to post your stuff (similar to e-Bay in that respect). I have never used HMV.
I think the total fraud that has passed through amazon's books to date is 0.00. Pretty good record.

In my opinion, Amazon is an excellent place to buy from. Been buying stuff from there for years, no problem.

HMV, I ordered 'The Mummy Returns' on DVD and they send a VHS 3 pack of 'Friends' so I was not impressed.

I have never encountered any probs with Amazon  in nearly 5 years.

I have never used HMV.

I agree with the comments about Amazon.  I have bought loads of stuff off there and have never had any problems.

Can't comment about HMV as I have never used them.

You could also consider www.play.com.

I have purchased several times from them without problems, and they offer free delivery.

I've had no problems either with Amazon - they've been good any time I've dealt with them.

I think the chances of any company whatsoever anywhere in the world (especially online) having zero fraud is about as likely as Brazil winning the Champions League this year.
I've ordered from both sites and they have both been brilliant, I ordered loads of VHS tapes from HMV in their sale and I got them in just a few days and would definitely order again from them .

Stevie, there will be people trying to sell stuff and taking money without sending the stuff, and people trying to buy with fake credit cards, and succeeding.

What I meant (should have clarified) was that the last time I heard them reporting on it, the total fraud due to someone using their credit card to purchase on the site, and the credit card consequently being compromised and used for fraud is 0.00. Which is a good record.

Ah, I know what you mean now. That no-one has managed to hack into Amazon's servers and read "my file" there and get my credit card number?

Still, Brazil for the Champs League!

while amazon is very reliable, their site has a lot of detailed information, recommendations, user reviews, etc, i find it's also one of the most expensive websites i've seen - i always use them for information, because their catalogue is extremely comprehensive, but i very very rarely use them to actually buy things.

not only are the prices high, but the delivery is (in my opinion) extortionate compared to some of their competitors. i'd have a look at play.com or cd-wow.com before buying anything from amazon.
