you can't - a dvd will hold many more files than a CD can -
you can however copy a dvd onto a number of CDs

the most straight forward way is create a folder and copy the dvd files into it (just drag and drop the files).

inside the folder create a number of subfolders

copy enough files to fill the cd (either 650 or 700 Mb)
(you don't HAVE to fill it)

then burn the contents of each folder to cd...
Download a free and legal software from the net called "audacity".Use the record, pause etc buttons to record those parts of the DVD that you are playing on your computer(hopefully it has a dvd rom). These audio files, done in sections, can be burnt on cds.
Do you perhaps mean music from a film, the soundtrack music from a video DVD to an Audio CD ?

No I recorded some music onto a dvd recorder from a casset using the headphone jack, I now want to transfer it to a cd disc. My computer drive does not recognise the DVD disc. thank you. J B
did you close the disc?
if the session is left open ... only the recorder can read it
(not true .. but go with the thought)
