Well it was God Save The King before it was God Save the Queen.  So the answer is 'yes'.

A nice new bright tune might be better, though!

Should be "God help the Country"
Does anyone else think that the National Anthem is outdated.  We have much to be proud of in this country. (Oh yes we have !) but we tend to be self-deprecating.  Many people see the tune as dull and boring, and the sentiments to be inappropriate in the modern world.  Compare with the enthusiasm shown by the Americans when they sing ...Land of the free and the home of the brave.  They sing it as if they really believe it.
Billy Connolly suggests, as part of his routine, that we should keep the words but change the tune to the theme from the Archers, which is far more upbeat!
Don't mind the words Grunty, I just think the tune is so miserable that it is hard to get enthusiastic about singing our National Anthem.  Perhaps it should sung to a reggae beat!
How long before we have a Caribbean queen? Now that would be worth coughing-up for. Instead of the snooty lot we have now.
