When you view the footage on TV, is the cam plugged into the VCR [does it go through the VCR] or TV? If in the TV, you may need to alter the Input channel on the VCR when you plug the cam into the VCR.
The AV1, 2 and 3 are merely input channels for the TV, nothing to do with the VCR.
The VCR also has it's own input channels for the front and back input jacks. Most VCR remotes have an Input button.
try this sequence:
-disconnect scart leads and the aerial from your setup for now, as you may have some 'bleed through'. let's try this basic set up first.
-vcr connected to TV via RF out (coaxial cable) to tv aerial input. tv tuned in to vcr channel.
-camera connected to vcr's scart (or front RCA phono inputs). EXT, AV or line must then be selected on the vcr, you will see the picture change to the camera on the tv
-press play on cam and rec on vcr.

HTH, let us know how it goes and we can take it from there
