My house is situated on top of a steep embankment which leads down to a cycling roadway. Unfortunately , the embankment is eroding and now the edge is only approximately one metre from the side of my garage wall. This has only recently become obvious since the local council choppped down several trees alongside my property. Is there anything I can do about it before we end up in the gully?

In the first instance, I would contact your Building Insurer for advice.
They are not interested in your garage falling into a hole either (because they may end up having to put it right) and so they are likely to be in the best position to work out who else to shift the responsbility onto.
A cycling roadway sounds like it is part of the public highway. The local council is responsible for maintenance, though does not 'own' it in the conventional sense.
