My system was infected 5 days ago with Trojan Horse Downloader.Zlob and became unusable. My local shop (50!) cleared the infection , but now I'm having to re-install all of my progs. etc. ( no bad thing really, 'cos I had far too much on it anyway) but I'm struggling trying to get my sound back!!! There's probably an easy way,but I can't find it!

Help,please. Be charitable , it's nearly Christmas!
Cheers

Personally, i'd get back in touch with the "local shop" - there should be no need to delete anything to get rid of a trojan.

If they did have to do a fresh reinstall of your operating system, then they should have had the decency to give the machine back to you in working order - that is what you paid for.....
I presume that all the shop has done is formatted the hard drive in which case you will need the motherboard drivers installing. These would have originally been supplied on a disc with the pc. If you dont have the original disc then go to the website of the motherboard manufacturer and download them from there.
You could have saved money by using one of Chuck's recommended virus removers!

Works a treat!
No offence to Grandpappy, but i am assuming that he's an older chap who, i doubt, would want to open up his machine to check out the motherboard.

Like i said, take the machine back to the shop and get them to reinstall at least the drivers for the hardware, seeing as it would have been them that removed the drivers.....
I'm with the bounty boy

however ... it sounds like they haven't installed the sound drivers .... (and who knows which other ones as well?)

go to control panel | system | hardware | device manager

there shouldn't be any but look for no entry signs

(at least if you are counter banging you'll sound as if you know a bit about the job '-)

(did you by any chance get a disc (or discs) with the machine?)
No Sound, I am a silver surfer and do not understand all this about Trojans, but last evening a programme called 360 Antivirus claimed to have found all kinds of nasties on my laptop. I use Avast antivirus so tried to turn 360 away but later discovered it had loaded and appears as an icon. Nothing seems wrong, I have sound and all the usual programmes except that the laptop refuses to remember my user name etc and I have to log in each time I want to access e-mail, answer bank etc. Do I have a problem? I know this sounds more like a question than an answer but it is a related subject.
50, thats disgusting, formatted your drive, without permission, from the sound of it. The least he could have done was reinstall your drivers.
