TV Repeats

Hi all, in these days of tv repeats why are programs that are not that old get repeated? there's a wealth of stuff out there that deserves repeating. Do any of you remember Rowan and Martin's Laugh in ? it was hilarious I think it was broadcast in the late '60s. Also Upstairs & Downstairs & The Forsyte Saga,to name but a few & I'm sure there are stacks more in the archives.Ron.

There use to be a great comdey called "Dear John" and i have never seen that repeated, not even on uk gold
Like you say there most be loads of good stuff never seen again but they keep repeating the same ones...

The only problem is that things I thought were fantastic many years ago I probably wouldn't like now - I used to love Steptoe and Son, Hancock, etc. etc. but they seem
weak when you see them decades later. They are just not relevant.

I loved Upstairs and Downstairs and the time and the Forsyte Saga, but I am willing to bet they wouldn't seem as good now. Although it may not seem like it, dramas these days are much better and modern technology has made a tremendous difference.

jaydj I love Dear John. Wsant there a bloke in the pub that just pretended to be something he wasnt all the time? I;d like 'me and my girl' repeated think it was called that. And also did they ever repeat 'Watching'

Upstairs, Downstairs was shown on ITV3 or 4 recently on Sunday mornings. More often than not, a broadcast like this prevents broadcasts of the same show on other stations in the same country.

Dear John was very good, they have repeated "watching" several times, upstairs downstairs was repeated quite recently as well, but do agree they usually repeat the same old ones, especially only fools......

Some series repeats are constrained by agreements between the production company involved and the TV companies. In some cases, companies go out of business, and legal negotiatons become too protracted and / or expensive to pursue.

It does seem a shame that old faves never seem to re-surface, while old 'favourites' are never off the screens.

My bid is for 'A Very Peculiar Practice' which was filmed in my home town and the local university - wonderful.

Bascially it costs money to repeat programs, there are actors to be paid and that's expensive. The TV channels will normally purchase a series to be shown, due to equity demanding a fair wack for their members services it's much more expensive to show UK television than it is to show American for example.

Therefore these companies know that people like for example "only fools and horses" (personally I think it's crap), so are happy to pay X number of thousands but not for something like Dear John as it would get a small audience (no matter how much you personally like it).

Much cheaper to have A-Team on 24/7 than any quality UK TV.

I think "Dear John" was made by the same people/writters that did "only fools & horses"

Because of work comittments and pre-video, I missed original showing of Budgie (Adam Faith`s series similar to Minder) but did see most repeats on C4 some years ago. Often think it should be repeated again but can never see it listed.

Uk repeats I would like to see: Bouquet of Barbed Wire. Oh Lordy, did that used to get me going on a Friday night. I just loved the son-in-law. Everyone sleeping with every other member of the extended family - it was very naughty in its day.

US repeats: St Elsewhere and Fortysomething.

Does anybody remember an early David Jason comedy (probably before Open All Hours) called "A Sharp Intake Of Breath". It was probably only about 6 episodes or so. I seem to remember it being quite funny.
