"Internet Explorer cannot display this webpage

The problem is when I click the internet Icon to log the P C tries to connect to www virginmedia.com/. during this process it changes to http//ask.askredir.com/search/cfg_redir............ then after a short while a screen shows I E cannot display this webpage. I have tried the X P check connectivity utility without success. I can make a hardwire cnnection to access the internet, so can anyone suggest a reason I cannot make the wireless connection? Thanks for assistance offered.

wierd! try another URL or troubleshoot ur wifi network

Thanks kuawski and THE PERSON. Have tried both suggestions with same negative result. Then a stange event occurred the P C made a connection with an insecure network nearby hey presto internet connection. This proves that a wireless connection is available so I now ask why can't I log n to my own network. I am now going try and make headway with a memor stick ith info from one of the laptops; am I heading in the direction? Thks advice.
