Why do UK shows get released over in the States & Canada in dvd boxsets but not here?

Can anyone tell me why UK shows (2 spring to mind)Are you being served & Midsomer Murders get released as box sets in dvd over in the States & Canada but not here?.You would think as these 2 shows are made in the UK they would bring out the box sets here also.

I know you can have dvd players that will play multi region (lets you play and any  region) as my player does but i just don't understand why boxsets for some UK shows are only available across the pond.

For example at christmas there was a couple of box sets (UK Tv shows) that would have made idea Christmas presents but they were only available from the states & by the time i came across them it was  too late for them to be here in time for Christmas.

Don't know, but the 2 "Doc Martin" films are only available in Australia!
