Hi, just noticed one of our guinea pigs has a poorly eye. It is bleeding (clear with blood) from the inner corner but I cannot see anything obviously wrong. As it is Sunday evening, I don't want to visit the vet if I can hold off going until tomorrow, - however if anyone out there thinks it could be sinister, I would be grateful for advice and I will call the vet tonight. Does anyone have any thoughts/suggestions?

have you just got the one pig? they could have been fighting.
if not it is an infection from the dust out of the saw dust and hey. if you use a cheap bedding they are not cleaned properly

Thanks to theking for that, it had occurred to me that maybe (as we have two brothers) that they had been fighting or even just scratched it himself. Re bedding, we get from a nationwide farming supplies co and it has never caused a problem before - tho always a first time. I will check them again in the morning and if necessary, call the vets. Thanks.
a salt eye bath will clean any wound. Dont use saw-dust for bedding as it splinters into animals.

Thanks to terambulan, I have had him checked out by the vet now and it appears he may have scratched his third eye lid. A does of ointment on his eye and he is on the mend now.
