Hi I hope someone can help,
My computer was fine yesteday up until a huge lightning bolt happened outside (obviously lol)which was about tea time, thinking the lightning was going to carry on I turned off the comp & unplugged it, it was off for half an hour ish then i plugged it back in and now i cant get internet access through explorer or messenger!
when i try and troubleshoot through messenger it says "Your Gateway appears to be offline" which i dont no what that means! and the error code is"80072ee7",

at the bottom of the screen theres a little piccie of 2 pc screens with a black exclamation mark inside a yellow triangle which when scrolled over says
Local Area Connection
Speed 100.0 Mbps
Status - Limited or no connectivity

I have cleared all cookies cached pages history ect
checked clock and date are right

But now i have no idea what to do so

any help is gratefully appreciated and I mean any lol

Are you by any chance using a wireless router?
If so it may need a reset.
Do the lights on the front of your router go on and off, if not, try taking the cable out of the back of it and put it back in.

Daisho no i dont use wireless but thanx anyway

trt yeah the router is fine checked all the cables on that and the modem and still nothing!
Maybe you ISP is down or having problems, or perhaps you need to re-install the modem and re-enter all your information. It may even be your firewall setting that needs looking at.

Just a thought.

Hiya just been intouch with virgin and did everything they told me to do and the lady said it wasnt a fault with there end it was a fault with my computer!

She said I need to take it to a PC repair shop so they can re-install local area connection!
Does anyone know how much this will cost? :-(
A programme on Radio 4 stated that every time an area suffers thunderstorms, the local PC World replaces at least 30 modems on the following day. Modems are particularly susceptible to the electrical surges created by thunderstorms and they're easily 'killed'. (I've lost two modems that way myself. I know that you're meant to disconnect the phone line during a thunderstorm but I never seem to remember in time!). I'd be prepared to bet that your modem has suffered a similar fate. Fortunately, modems are fairly cheap, so it shouldn't cost very much to fix the problem.

Thanx for that Buenchico :-( lol it would be just my look do you have any idea what "re-install local area connection! " means and how much it is incase they can fix it
