1st person that released it was Irish singer Frances Black. It was then picked up by Ronan Keating, who had the massive hit with it after if featured in the film "Notting Hill"

Alison Krauss also sings it...I'm not sure if she brought it out originally.

The song is written by Don Schlitz and Paul Oberstreet if that is any help (found that on the back of an Alison Krauss album)!

"When you say nothing at all" - I think the original was sung by Keith Whitley, might be wrong though.

It featured on the late Keith Whitley's album Don't Close Your Eyes in 1988 - I'm not a fan, but I am a demon on Google :O)

This would certainly pre-date both Alison Krauss and Boyzone, but I don't know if anyone else did it before Whitley.
