I am still searching for a children's book of fairy stories from around the 1930s, 1940s or 1950s which included a story about Griselda and the rain fairies and 3 poor princesses who wanted to go to a ball - Cordelia, Arabella and Sylvia. Anyone out there remember the name of the book or the publisher or anything else about it?

The tales of Griselda come from folklore, and I think there's a book by R.M. Dawkins, written in 1949 - the Story of Griselda, or something. Your post interested me, because my grandma used to read these stories to me, although I've long since forgotten exactly what they were about, but I know they enthralled me at the time - and I named one of my dolls Griselda! I must've been about 4 or 5 then, so we're going back 24 years or so. Good luck with the hunt.
There's a book available from an Australian bookseller that's a collection of such stories, and I'm pretty sure the first tale is 'Griselda and the Rain Fairies'. If you contact the bookseller, he may be able to confirm this. Have a look here
I had a copy of this book when I was a small child, about 35 years ago. I have been trying to find a copy ever since. I remember the beautiful illustrations that were almost like photographs. Have you had any luck finding a copy?
