Mrs W is inside watching this for the umpteenth time, and again she's in tears.
Obviously I don't get it - if she felt that strongly she should've left with him, if not she should have kept her legs closed...??? Come on girls - explain it to me.
Yes, she should have left with Robert, but if she had then it wouldn't have been so heart wrenching & people like me & your wife wouldn't have watched it so many times that we know the script!
Its all about the sense of duty! She would have loved to go with Robert, but felt her family came first. She then spent forever thinking of him and he spent forever thinking of her...aah!
Its a Brief Encounter type of thing and really the book is better than the film. Give it a go!
Men don't like it because they want to believe they are like the enigmatic Robert, but they know deep down that they are really the steady and slightly dull husband. And there's nothing wrong with being steady and dependable!
OMG a friend lent me the book years ago, I read it in one evening and went in to work the next morning with swollen eyes greeting her with the words "never, never let me read a story like that again"
I got the DVD as soon as it came out and I still cry every flamin' time it just tugs at women's heartstrings, all the "if onlys" I think most of us have let someone go and regretted it, few of us have stayed with the true love of their life.
