I recently bought a 2006 Mini One (Petrol, 17,000 miles) & have had a couple of problems & seeking advice from other Mini owners who have had similar experiences.

1.A burning smell from inside the bonnet area after a motorway journey (Clutch?)

2.Rattling noise from the gearbox when the engine is idling, this disappears when the clutch is pressed & returns when clutch is released.

I have approached a local Mini dealer but they were uncertain on both. Please help!

There's a lot of Mini owners here...........

Ask them.

On a Motorway the clutch is doing nothing so it won't be that.
I would slightly disagree that the clutch is doing nothing on a motorway!

But if it was slipping you should notice it, put the car in top gear at a fairly low speed and floor the throttle... if the engine speed picks up faster then you car speed then clutch is shot (though unlikely in a 17k mile car unless it's been driven really badly)

Rattling from when the clutch is depressed is normally the clutch thrust bearing... again not likely in a 17k mile car.

thinking about it are you 100% sure on the actual milage of this car?

You wouldn't be doing anything chuck if you were clamped solid between to big chunks of metal. :-)
Hi, what is your left foot postion when you drive the car? I think the answer to your question will be in the answer you give!
