Many thanks Puuspuss and Catron but according to the book of quotations on Aristotle he said 'Summer.' Has Kate Mepham made a mistake or did you frind Spring in another source?

10:57 I agree with Cricketer. The correct quotation by Aristotle is 'One swallow does not make a summer'. One across is obviously an error!! However we have to put in the wrong answer, which is Spring.

11:00 i also agree , but if you google it you can find

One swallow does not make spring, nor does one fine day." Aristotle ... How does the definition of spring vary from person to person? ..
i think Kate made a mistake or Aristotle changed his mind at a later date
While I originally thought there had been an error, this is what Brewers Dictionary of Phrase and Fable has to say -

The Greek proverb, 'One swallow does not make a spring', is to be found in ARISTOTLE's Nicomachaean Ethics (l, vii, 16).
